Lord B...

Did you get this series....
THE PERSUADERS…Tony Curtis…Roger Moore…
Nearly another years work all down to Ricky Green the 2nd A.D. (Where are you Rick)?
I was booked to do a couple of days stand/in for Tony while his regular stand/in Alan (Butch) Meecham was off sick. I got on well with Tony because he liked my Cockney accent. (Well I was born N1/E1)
Now I would either stand/in for Tony, Roger or one of the guest Artists on that episode.(Including Terry Thomas)
Tony was the best to work for because he always had time for you.
He would come on the set early morning and ask how the wife and kids were.
He would tell me of his tough upbringing as a child in the Bronx and how he learned to be tough. He had to be he said.
(As a young man I was madly in love with his ex wife Janet Leigh but I thought it better not to tell him)
One day off set he was doing handstands and ask me would I like to join him. (By now you would have guessed that I’m not the fittest man in the film game)
So I declined saying ‘’Tone, I have trouble standing the right way up never mind upside down’’. He was a very fit man and so should be after working with Burt Lancaster on TRAPEZE.
As I said I was on The Persuaders for nearly a year thanks to Tony, Roger and Ricky Green. (I like the film business)

ONE EYED HARRY WITH TONY AND CREW. RICKY GREEN IS FAR LEFT WITH BEARD.
(I HAD A LARGE BEE GO IN MY EYE JUST BEFORE THIS PHOTO WAS TAKEN)...

Wonderful memories , Harry .

I've been quite a lot at Pinewood Studios myself...but two decades later !!!!

As a matter of fact , will be back at Pinewood in next october for the official Spy Who Loved me Anniversary Day with the added bonus of the presence of Sir Rog' himself attending...

And on a personnal note , I must confess I was too young to attend the filming of the intro sequence of The Persuaders at Nice airport and then on the Corniche road between Nice and Monaco, although living quite nearby at the times ...Sigh ( again )

Strangely enough , Roger Moore remains to this day the only Bond actor I've never met in person so far...

Thank you, Evelyne for the welcome.
I did have some luck in my life (3 kids..5 grandkids and a lovely wife for 45 years this year)
But I had to work hard at getting all the jobs I did and I would gladly do it all again.
When you're in a studio you would bump into all the stars in the canteen or bar and they are all the same as us and have to be fed and watered. drunken
I'm retired now and enjoying not having to rush up and down motorways after forty years.
I still go to Elstree studios for the odd lunch or drink (but at my own pace) cheers

That's me at the front middle of the pic about to get it. Very Happy
RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK…Director Steven Spielberg…Elstree Studios…
Cast Inc…Harrison Ford…Karen Allen…
A great joy to watch Mr Spielberg at work.. The whole sequence was set out on storyboards. A master of his craft…
There’s about twenty of the chaps dressed up as (It’s that word again) GERMAN’S.
And it’s near the end of the film where the bad guys find The Ark and all us bad guys are going to get our just desserts.

Harry "Aitch" Fielder Raiders
When The Ark is opened strange things start to happen and strong winds and sand are blown all over the set. Steven tells us to react to strange ghost like creatures coming out of the Ark. He’d point at us and shout above the noise of the wind, ‘’It’s coming for you now react, now it’s got you round the face, react to it.’’
George Lucas was standing next to Steven at times and seemed to be enjoying the action.
Harrison and Karen were tied to a stake at the time so I couldn’t get any help from that quarter…
Of course all the special effects are put onto screen months later as is most films these days…
I read Steven Spielberg’s life story and he didn’t always have it easy. (Read it)

I did write them and it turned into my web site. Very Happy

It took me six months to write (but nearly 40 years to live)
When I think back to the Avenger days at Elstree that would only count for 2-3 days in my life. When I think back to the 800 other productions that took 32 years of my life.
If the Mod can set up a page for me in English I have many tales to tell and we can leave this page free for Avengers fans.
I did get to work with some of the best stars from both sides of the pond.... lol!

Evelyne, I got to work with Harrison Ford a few times on films but I suppose the biggest one was Star Wars.( again Elstree)
If you're in the same scene as any top actor you might get a line to say or have to react to them so of course you speak to them...(You don't go out to dinner with them though.)
We are there to make movies so everyone has a job to do.

Lord B..I did work on a few Bond films and this one is funny Very Happy
THE SPY WHO LOVED ME…Director Lewis Gilbert…Pinewood 007 Stage…
Another James Bond film starring Roger Moore…
This was a good film for the Supporting Artists as it was made just before Xmas and a few days after… (We called it ‘’getting our turkey’’ money…)
This was an all action film for us with the stunt team at the front of it and us ‘’Extras’’ bringing up the rear. (If you got close to an explosion you got extra money)…
Some of the boys on the film (Jerry Judge, Bill the body, Jack Ross, Ronnie Woods, The Lizard, Cornflakes) and about twenty others lasted the distance and all had a happy Xmas.
I remember seeing ‘’JAWS’’ (Richard Kiel) in the Pinewood Bar drinking a pint and his hands were so big it looked like he was holding a thimble… (These were good days) I remember one big scene near the end of the film when we had to get off the subs as fast as as we could before the whole place blew up. I knew there was going to be loud bangs and plenty of heat so I suggested to this young chap that it would look good in shot if I carried him over my shoulders down some iron stairs as if he was wounded. He thought it was a great idea..

What I was really doing was looking after number one (me) and if it did get really hot and bad he was protecting my face and neck...

( regarding your SWLM anecdote ) ...Aah , the good ole' Stuntmen esprit-de-corps !!!

Laughing Laughing

I perfectly remember that sequence indeed .
Roger Moore himself hated noisy explosions and scenes like that ( remember the one at the end of ' The Man With The golden Gun - when Scaramanga's island is blown to pieces . Roger was so nervous ,his hands were moist and he kept slipping and missing Britt Ekland at each shot, when they had to run & take cover behind a rock ...)

Hiya folks, cheers
It's not very often you get to work with the truly greats,
1972
[size=9]FRENZY…Director…Alfred Hitchcock…
I am now working with the Master of filming.
Where I was born in Islington London, there was a huge warehouse type building on the corner of the Grand Union Canal in New North Road. (Very near the North Pole Pub)
It was in fact a film studio. As a kid in the forties I used to swim in the canal as it cost nothing entrance fee. (You had to watch out for the large Mocking birds floating on top of the water)
I think the studio was called Gainsborough and as a kid I remember strangely dressed people popping into the pub on the corner of New North Road and Elizabeth Avenue. (Supporting Artists of the past)
Anyway, that’s where Alfred Hitchcock made many of his films.
(I could have bumped into him while I was going swimming and he was popping in for a swift half. It’s a small world)
ONTO THE FILM…
I was now the not so proud owner of an old Bedford van and was booked by the 2nd A.D. on Frenzy to report to Covent Garden fruit market for the start of a weeks work...
There must have been fifty supporting artists working that week as market porters.
It was thirty years ago but some people still come to mind, like Big Mo Dunster who was stand/in on films for Donald Sutherland. Jimmy (the crow) Hammilton, Eddie Dillon And Bill (the body) Hemmings.
I remember the day that Donald Sutherland came down to speak to Mo about a private matter and got into one of the shots.(Everyone wants to be in a Hitchcock movie)
Mo has done well for himself and now lives in the U.S.A. looking after the Sutherland clan. Best wishes Mo, love Boysie.
Mr. Hitchcock was not very well while he was directing this film and would line up all the shots he wanted and leave the running around to his 1st A.D. (Colin Brewer, I think)
We filmed all around the market for the next week or so loading vans and unloading vans (Including my old Bedford) but I was more interested in watching the Master at work. Then near the end of the shoot in the market it happened.
The Master looked at me then at the 1st A.D. and said…
‘’Tell that man to climb up on that lorry and start unloading it’’
(‘’That man’’) he said my name, I was being directed by the great man himself.
We shot a lot of the inside of the film at Pinewood. Then some stuff with the Bedford Following a potato lorry up and down major roads and that was it.
I was sorry to see the end of the filming but it’s one film I will never forget.
If you’re looking down from that great studio in the sky Mr. Hitchcock ‘’That Man’’ will say hello when he gets there.
Aitch, Cool .

There's another Hitchcock's film which is very violent, which happens during the Cold War. There's a sequence where a man shoots a woman.
I don't remember the title but I saw it a long time ago.

By the way Lord B.Sinclair, the picture with the title of the new James Bond is great.
I like the color. Green just like Eva Green. Oh my god, Eva Green is so....She makes me fantasize. Laughing
